Hipot tests are used for everything from very low-voltage devices to high-voltage equipment. For medium to high-voltage rotating equipment, DC hipot tests called step voltage or ramp tests are used to see whether the start of an insulation breakdown can be detected

 

What is the difference between AC and DC hipot?

DC hi-pot tester provides a more accurate reading of the leakage current as it only reads real current. AC hipot tester, on the other hand, measures total current and does not provide accurate leakage current measurement.

 

What is the leakage current for DC hipot?

The test waveform, whether DC or an ac sine wave is also typically specified. What constitutes a failure?
